Days of Our Lives is setting the stage for a massive DiMera mystery, and Dominic Marino could be at the center of a secret that completely changes Salem’s power structure.
While many fans have been focused on the possibility that Marina Evans is Dominic’s mother, another theory is gaining serious attention: what if Dominic is actually the secret son of Stefano DiMera and Rita?
The biggest clue may be Stefano’s famous ring.
EJ DiMera apparently leaves the important family heirloom behind, giving Rita the perfect opportunity to take it. But instead of keeping it for herself or using it as leverage, Rita hands the ring directly to Dominic.
The symbolism is difficult to ignore. It almost feels like a transfer of power—a mother giving her son the object that represents his connection to the DiMera legacy.
And Dominic does not appear completely shocked by the gesture. If this theory is correct, he may have known much more about his origins than anyone in Salem realizes.
That would make Rita far more important than she initially appeared. Rather than being a minor player caught up in someone else’s scheme, she could have been quietly preparing Dominic for years.
If Stefano is truly Dominic’s father, Rita may have been waiting for the perfect moment to put her son in position to claim what she believes belongs to him.
The timing could hardly be more convenient.
EJ is already surrounded by chaos involving Holly, Nicole, Chad, Theo and the mysterious situation surrounding Lexi. If his enemies continue attacking him from every direction, his grip on the DiMera empire could become increasingly fragile. Dominic would not necessarily have to attack EJ directly. He could simply wait while the family destroys itself and then step forward when the throne is vulnerable.
That possibility also makes the Marina theory particularly interesting. The show may deliberately be encouraging viewers to focus on Stefano’s complicated history with Marina. With the chess-set clues and Stefano’s continuing influence hanging over the storyline, it would be easy to assume that Marina is somehow connected to Dominic’s birth.
But perhaps that is exactly what the writers want us to believe.
If Marina is a distraction, then Rita becomes the real key to the mystery. Her connection to Dominic could explain why she seems so protective of him and why the DiMera ring suddenly ends up in his possession. Instead of another Stefano romance story, this would become a story about bloodline, inheritance and power.
And imagine what happens if Chad discovers that Dominic is his secret brother.
Chad already has complicated feelings about the DiMera name. Learning that another heir has appeared—one who potentially wants control of the entire empire—could push him into direct conflict with Dominic. EJ would obviously have even more reason to fight, particularly if Dominic’s claim threatens his position.
There is also the possibility that Dominic has been preparing for this moment for years. His apparent lack of surprise when Rita gives him the ring could suggest that this is not the beginning of his plan, but merely the moment when the plan finally becomes visible.
Of course, none of this is confirmed. Dominic being Stefano and Rita’s son remains a theory based on the clues described in the storyline. Salem has a long history of fake-outs, secret identities and shocking family revelations, so another explanation could still emerge.
But if the theory proves true, the consequences could be enormous. Rita would become the mother of a potential new DiMera heir, Dominic would suddenly have a powerful claim to Stefano’s legacy, and EJ and Chad could find themselves fighting against a rival they never knew was coming.
