The emotional impact on Will is enormous. Because of his mother’s real history with serious heart problems and her transplant, seeing Katie collapse would naturally send him into panic. He believes that the argument about his relationship with Dylan may have pushed his mother too far.
Instead of reassuring him, however, Katie appears to use his fear and guilt to get exactly what she wants.
From the hospital bed, Katie allegedly tells Will that the stress surrounding his relationship is affecting her health. She then pressures him to promise that he will end things with Dylan.
For Will, this becomes a devastating emotional trap. He is forced to choose between protecting the woman who raised him and staying with the woman he loves.

Why did Katie suddenly collapse? And why did she make Will promise to abandon Dylan? If Will discovers that the medical crisis was staged, the emotional consequences could be devastating.
The biggest casualty may be the mother-son relationship itself. Will could suddenly realize that his mother was not simply trying to protect him. He may feel that Katie deliberately exploited his deepest fear of losing her to control his personal life. A betrayal like that could be almost impossible for him to forgive.
Bill Spencer could also become involved once the truth emerges. If Bill learns that Katie used her health history to emotionally manipulate their son, he may have a very different reaction than she expects. Rather than bringing Will back into the family fold, Katie’s actions could push him even further away.
