Days of our Lives September Goings and Comings: 4 Major Stars Return to DOOL This September

September is shaping up to be another eventful month on Days of Our Lives as Salem welcomes new faces, familiar characters and several surprising developments. With secrets spreading throughout the city, the latest casting changes could have a major impact on some of the soap’s biggest storylines.

One of the most talked-about additions is Brandon Butler, who joins the show in a brand-new role.

Butler makes his debut as Mason Whitfield on September 1. The actor is familiar to longtime DAYS viewers because he previously appeared on the soap as Zack Brady, but this time he is playing an entirely different character.

Mason’s arrival immediately raises questions.

Holly introduces him to Julie, making his first appearance seem relatively innocent. However, the mysterious newcomer could have a much deeper connection to Salem than anyone initially realizes.

His background remains largely hidden, giving fans plenty of reasons to wonder why Mason has suddenly arrived.

Meanwhile, Chad and Belle’s investigation continues developing.

Their search for answers surrounding Stefano’s mysterious chessboard takes them into increasingly dangerous territory. EJ also becomes suspicious of what Chad and Belle are doing, while someone appears to be watching the pair from the shadows.

That storyline could eventually bring several familiar characters back into the spotlight.

Elsewhere, Philip and Gabi are heading toward another major turning point.

Philip shocks Gabi with a proposal, adding another unexpected complication to the already complicated relationships in Salem. Their storyline could become even more dramatic as Philip continues dealing with the battle surrounding the Kiriakis family.

At the same time, Marlena finds herself dealing with a mysterious memory.

The unexpected memory could connect to something buried in Salem’s past and potentially provide another clue about the secrets currently unfolding.

Other familiar characters also remain heavily involved.

Steve and Kayla receive a special opportunity, while Sarah and Brady become suspicious about something happening around them. Xander discovers Victoria has a hidden talent, and Alex and Stephanie unexpectedly find common ground.

But the biggest question remains the future of Salem’s returning favorites.

There is already major casting news involving Alison Sweeney as Sami, Christie Clark as Carrie, Bryan R. Dattilo as Lucas and Chandler Massey as Will. All four actors have returned to film a major storyline, although those episodes are currently scheduled to air in June 2027 rather than September 2026.

That means September 2026 is less about those four returns and more about new mysteries, new faces and storylines building toward future returns.
